who we are

We serve as a resource for Augusta’s arts community and help connect arts lovers to the events and programs they are passionate about. We currently act as Augusta’s Public Art Agency, and also the agency in charge of re-granting arts funds from the City of Augusta through the City Arts Grants Program.

Other events and outreach programs we produce are: Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival, Aspirations workshop series, the annual Wet Paint Party &Sale, Legislative Luncheon, and the annual Arts Awards dinner.

Arts Council at a Glance

The Greater Augusta Arts Council was founded in 1968 by the Greater Augusta Chamber of Commerce, the Junior Women’s Club, and the Junior League of Augusta to serve as an umbrella organization for the arts in Augusta. Over the years, we have taken an increasingly active role in planning and implementing Augusta’s cultural identity.

Often, the Greater Augusta Arts Council takes on special projects in order to better support the Augusta Arts Community. We have participated in survey projects to research the economic impact of the arts in Augusta, letter-writing campaigns to bring awareness of lawmakers to the importance of funding the arts in education, and a variety of other efforts that enhance the cultural landscape of Augusta, Georgia.
