Camp lets children experience art forms

Izaiah McCrary had no complaints about his week in Artscape camp "I like everything," the 12-year-old said. "It's all fun to me."
Izaiah was among nearly 150 children who participated in the camp at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Augusta's Dogwood Terrace unit last week. The weeklong camp, presented by the Greater Augusta Arts Council, is held at each of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Augusta's four units this month.

Arts winners to be honored June 10

The Greater Augusta Arts Council has announced the recipients of its 2010 Arts Recognition awards. The annual awards recognize outstanding contribution to the fine and performing arts in the Augusta area.
Musician James Nord was named arts professional of the year, musician Ed Turner received the award for individual artist of the year, and WFXG-TV was the recipient of the media award. Design and marketing firm Wierhouse won the sponsor award. Rich Borgatti won the volunteer award.
The awards will be presented at the arts council's annual meeting and awards dinner at 6:30 p.m. June 10, featuring music by Pat Blanchard. Tickets are $20.
Jessye Norman Awarded National Medal of Arts
President Barack Obama presented the National Medal of Arts to world-renowned singer and Augusta-native JESSYE NORMAN for her outstanding achievements and support of the arts. The medal, the nation’s highest honor for artistic excellence, was presented by the President and Mrs. Michele Obama in an East Room ceremony at the White House.
