Annual Art Awards Nominations open, New Public Art Award Announced
Nominate leaders in the Augusta arts community for the Annual Arts Awards! The Nominations are now open for the 2018 Awards, including a NEW award for public art. Named for the late Kath Girdler Engler, an accomplished local sculptor whose work appears across the Augusta River Region, the Kath Girdler Engler Award for Public Art will be awarded to artists, organizations, and individuals championing the cause of public art in Augusta. Nominations will be accepted in the 6 categories for the 2018 Annual Arts Awards – Individual Artist, Volunteer, Arts Professional, Sponsor, Media, and the new Public Art Award.
Nomination Deadline: May 10, Awards Dinner June 21, 6-8pm (tickets available in May)
Spring exhibition titled “Fusion” displays work by 7 artists at the newly renamed “City Gallery”
Artwork by 7 local artists is now on display in the City Gallery located inside the Augusta Richmond County Municipal Building in a group show titled, “Fusion, A Celebration of Modalities.” The artwork featured in “Fusion” highlights several unique artistic mediums – paper-cutting, 3-dimensional clay on canvas, photography, and more.
Featured Artists Include:
Colleen Beyer, Ginny Bojanowski, Dawn Cardona, Marian Owens, Bonita Martin, Rabia Rana, and Ryan Rood.
Artist Cohort Announced for “Business of Being an Artist” Class
The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art and Greater Augusta Arts Council are pleased to announce the upcoming cohort of artists participating in “The Business of Being an Artist” class. Artists will learn what it takes to be an exibiting artist from instructor Frieda Dean and special guests speaking on different elements of creative careers. Save the date for their closing group exhibition, being hosted at Jessye Norman School of the Arts on May 31, 6-8pm.

Local Artists’ coworking studio featured in 4-12 Metro Spirit issue
Four local artists made the front cover of the latest Metro Spirit issue, out on stands today, for their upcoming event “Art Night,” which will open the doors of their studio to the public starting next Thursday, April 19, 6-10pm.
Artists Jacob Vaz, Jason Craig, Anna Patrick and Matt Porter, who dubbed their group “Pink Slips Analog” will host Art Night not only to host the public, but they encourage fellow artists to bring their supplies and work alongside them in the space.
