The City of Augusta, through a dedicated SPLOST 7 funded project, is commissioning the creation of three large-scale sculptures at three gateways to the City.
The first phase of a new public art project, The Golden Blocks Project was installed in Augusta’s Laney-Walker historic district Wednesday. The project is a collaboration by the City of Augusta Housing and Community Development, The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History, and the Greater Augusta Arts Council. ‘This is one of four works in the Golden Blocks project,’ said Brenda Durant, the Arts Council executive director. ‘The four artists have chosen to work together.'”
To beautify McBean Community Center & Park and promote intergenerational engagement, the Arts Council will commission an artist to create one to three (1-3) engaging and whimsical chess tables and seating for patrons of McBean. Applications close October 1, 2019.
The Harrisburg Neighborhood residents who live near Hillside Park, located at 2101 Telfair Street near Hickman Road and Tubman Road, working through the Harrisburg Community Council and Harrisburg-West End Neighborhood Association, have advocated for quality of life enhancements to their beloved neighborhood park, and are seeking to spark positive community change through art.
