A special nine-day exhibit of new art by eight Augusta artists called Vital Connections will open on Thursday May 31, 6:00 – 8:00p.m. at the Jessye Norman School of the Arts, 739 Greene Street, Augusta, Georgia. The exhibition is aculmination of an 8 week course taught by Frieda Dean, at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art called The Business Of Being An Artist. A part of an ongoing series of courses to assist local artists succeed in showing and selling their art, the program is sponsored as a collaboration by The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, The Greater Augusta Arts Council, and The Jessye Norman School of the Arts.

The Greater Augusta Arts Council announced today that the Nomination Forms are now open for the 2018 Annual Arts Awards, which celebrate individuals and organizations that advance the arts in Augusta. The Arts Awards were established to recognize outstanding talent, exceptional initiative and leadership within Augusta’s vibrant arts community. In addition to the 6 awards currently distributed, the Arts Council is pleased to announce the addition of a new award: The Kath Girdler Engler Public Art Award.
Artwork by 7 local artists is now on display in the gallery located inside the Augusta Richmond County Municipal Building in a group show named, “Fusion, A Celebration of Modalities.” Recently renamed “The City Gallery,” the gallery space at the Municipal Building hosts exhibitions programmed by the Greater Augusta Arts Council. The artwork featured in “Fusion” highlights several unique artistic mediums – paper-cutting, 3-dimensional clay on canvas, photography, and more. Local artist Nico Gozal curated the show, and selected the work to illustrate the variety of methods artists use to create art.
