City Committee approves placement for “Art Cart” in Downtown Augusta

At the January 30 meeting of the Augusta Richmond County Commission, the Public Services Committee approved a request by the Greater Augusta Arts Council to place the “Art Cart” installation on the campus of the Law Office of the Public Defender. The Art Cart, developed and donated by Textron Specialized Vehicles in Fall 2017, is an installation created out of an actual golf cart that will provide public shaded seating, a bike rack, a way-finding map, and a solar-powered phone charging station.

 Porter Fleming Public Art Symposium, October 17 – REGISTRATION OPEN

October 17, 2017, the Porter Fleming Foundation and the Greater Augusta Arts Council will present a symposium on public art to engage the Augusta arts community and city stakeholders on the future of public art in Augusta. Special guest Patricia Walsh, the Public Art Programs Manager for the Americans for the Arts, will be the keynote speaker of this symposium, to be held on the campus of Augusta University.

Arts Council to Host Public Art Artist Forum August 8

The Greater Augusta Arts Council will host a community input session on public art Tuesday, August 8, for local Augusta artists to share their thoughts on future public art projects and community involvement. The forum will take place in the Linda Beazley Conference room at the Augusta Richmond County Municipal Building, 5:30-7, with a networking reception to follow.

Art Cart Call for Artists Re-issued, New Deadline August 17

THE DEADLINE FOR THE ART CART CALL FOR ARTISTS HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO AUGUST 17. The Arts Council is currently taking applications and mock-ups from local artists for inventive designs for the Art Cart, a new piece of public art that gives a nod to Augusta’s golf ties while offering the community a place to view local art, a shaded place to sit, and even a charging station for their phone. Arts Council Announces New Annual Award Celebrating Public Art, Annual Arts Award Nominations now open

The Greater Augusta Arts Council announced today that the Nomination Forms are now open for the 2018 Annual Arts Awards, which celebrate individuals and organizations that advance the arts in Augusta. The Arts Awards were established to recognize outstanding talent, exceptional initiative and leadership within Augusta’s vibrant arts community. In addition to the 6 awards currently distributed, the Arts Council is pleased to announce the addition of a new award: The Kath Girdler Engler Public Art Award.

FUSION on display now at newly renamed “City Gallery”

Artwork by 7 local artists is now on display in the gallery located inside the Augusta Richmond County Municipal Building in a group show named, “Fusion, A Celebration of Modalities.” Recently renamed “The City Gallery,” the gallery space at the Municipal Building hosts exhibitions programmed by the Greater Augusta Arts Council. The artwork featured in “Fusion” highlights several unique artistic mediums – paper-cutting, 3-dimensional clay on canvas, photography, and more. Local artist Nico Gozal curated the show, and selected the work to illustrate the variety of methods artists use to create art.
