08 Jan Greater Augusta Arts Council seeks nominations of local artists for Public Art Advisory Panel
Nominations for local artists are open for positions that are currently available on the Public Art Advisory Panel, the Arts Council’s committee that works to bring public art to the City of Augusta Richmond County.
Made up of city leaders, artists, and community members, the Public Art Panel manages public art commissions for the City of Augusta. The panel is also streamlining the process for placing art in public spaces on public property.
“Years of work have brought the desire for more expressive public art in Augusta to an all-time high,” said Pax Bobrow, Project Manager with the Greater Augusta Arts Council. “The Public Arts Advisory Panel will help us build a framework for the city to unleash that creative energy.”
For an increased presence of local artists in the public art decision-making process, the Arts Council seeks nominations of artists from the Augusta community for these positions. The community is urged to submit their nominations for local artists, and artists are welcome to nominate themselves.
As the Public Art Advisory Panel advises the City of Augusta on use of taxpayer funds, members of the Panel are required to be residents of Richmond County. Any artist who serves on the panel must sign a conflict of interest agreement, and cannot benefit financially from their time spent on the panel. The artist serving on the panel would ideally serve a full 3-year term, but could serve for a shorter term by agreement of the Board of the Arts Council.
Nominations: To nominate an artist for a position on the Public Art Advisory Panel, please email Pax Bobrow at [email protected] with their contact information. Artists are encouraged to submit themselves for consideration—please include resume, CV, and/or work samples in your email submission.
