The Department of Art and Design at Augusta University seeks two outstanding graphic designers for two available full-time tenure track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor to join a rapidly growing department that is dedicated to teaching and mentoring artists and designers. The successful candidates will teach other entry-level and advanced graphic design courses including UI/UX experience, motion graphics, design history, design for print and publication, and typography as well as 2D design classes as necessary. The successful hires will be part of an expanding Bachelor’s in Fine Arts track in Graphic Design that has demonstrated the ability to compete with designers from across the region, as four of our students took home Addy Awards last year. Students and faculty enjoy ever-expanding opportunities for interdisciplinary research and real-life opportunities to apply contemporary practices in graphic design. In addition to teaching, tenure track faculty will sustain a robust practice of creative scholarship or publication in the field, participate in departmental and university service, and foster both community and professional relationships.
Potential courses to be taught include UI/UX experience, motion graphics, typography, design history, design for print and publication and Art Foundation courses.

Responsibilities

A successful candidate is expected to teach two studio courses per semester related to foundation level and Graphic Design. These include courses within the BFA and BA concentrations developing skill sets as color theory, web design, motion media to illustration. Maintain an active role developing/enhancing departmental curricula and programs while demonstrating leadership in student mentoring and advising. Responsible for creative research scholarship and professional growth, having regional and greater reach.
All full time, tenure track faculty are expected to give service to the department, college and university by participating actively, regularly and equitably on committees and serving the departmental needs.

Required Qualifications

Masters in Fine Arts (MFA), its equivalent terminal degree in the appropriate discipline, or its equivalent experience in training, ability, or experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)’s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching graphic design courses and experience working in the field of graphic design.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.
Salary range is $57,000-$62,000 for the academic year.
