Meet Sarah Felz: Rockstar Mom, Visionary Photographer, and Storyteller
This month, the Greater Augusta Arts Council shines a light on Sarah Felz, an artist who uses photography as her voice, her therapy, and her way of connecting with the world. Sarah’s journey is one of creativity woven through the fabric of her life, blending the challenges of motherhood with a relentless passion for storytelling through art.
For Sarah, ART is a language, a powerful one that transcends words. “Art speaks to anyone who sees or experiences it,” she says. “It draws people together, sparks conversation, and makes people feel in a world that often teaches us to suppress our emotions.” For Sarah, art is more than expression, it’s inspiration, therapy, and healing. It’s a spiritual experience that allows her soul to communicate with the world around her, offering glimpses of her internal struggles, joys, and the raw beauty of life.
Sarah’s journey into photography began during a transformative chapter of her life: pregnancy.
While on bedrest, she purchased her first camera, a Nikon D3100—and began learning through online classes. What started as a way to fill her days soon became a lifeline, helping her process her unexpected path to motherhood. When her daughter, Lilly, was born, Sarah was ready to capture every fleeting moment, turning her newfound skills into a way of preserving not just memories but feelings. Her love for photography is rooted in her desire to document the meaningful. “I need to create an image that brings me back to the exact moment and what it felt like,” Sarah explains. Over the past eight years, this passion has expanded into a creative journey that celebrates both the extraordinary and the everyday.
These days, Sarah focuses on creative projects, balancing her artistry with the demands of motherhood. With two children, she has embraced the beauty of capturing family moments while also nurturing her own creative spirit. Looking ahead, she eagerly anticipates diving deeper into her art once her youngest begins kindergarten next year. “It’s my hope to jump back into the art that brings me so much joy and helps me find my voice,” she says.
One of Sarah’s greatest artistic achievements was being featured in an art show at the Treehouse. “Seeing my work on the walls of a place that means so much to me was an incredible honor,” she shares. “It made me feel seen and validated as an artist in a way I’ll never forget.” Yet, like many artists, Sarah faces her own challenges. Confidence, imposter syndrome, and a distaste for self-promotion often make her second-guess her work. “I am my absolute biggest critic,” she admits. “I think whenever the day comes that I can get out of my own way, magical things could happen.”
Through it all, Sarah’s art remains her anchor. It is how she communicates, heals, and inspires. Her journey reminds us that art isn’t just about creating something beautiful—it’s about connecting with the world, sharing your truth, and finding meaning in the messiness of life. Sarah Felz is more than an artist; she’s a storyteller who invites us all to pause, feel, and see the world through her lens. Learn more about Sarah by linking to her IG or her Website.
