Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the New Sculptures Along the Augusta Sculpture Trail
Augusta, GA – Join the City of Augusta and the Greater Augusta Arts Council in celebrating the temporary two-year installation of 10 new sculptures along the growing Augusta Sculpture trail. Save the date for the ribbon cutting ceremony, which will take place on Friday, May 2 at 11:00 a.m. at the 8th Street Riverwalk Plaza located at 2 8th Street, Augusta, GA 30901.
The Greater Augusta Arts Council, who acts as the Public Art Agency for the City of Augusta, developed the Augusta Sculpture Trail in 2020, with funding from the City of Augusta, on the heels of the Covid-19 Pandemic. It was their hope to give residents and visitors a way to experience public art and the outdoors. It was also seen as a method of driving the local economy by helping to bring visitors to Downtown Augusta.
Each iteration sees 10 new sculptures installed throughout downtown, the Riverwalk and the 5th Street “Freedom” Bridge. These works are listed for sale and can be purchased for both private and public display, with many of those purchased being donated back to the city to grow its public art collection for all to enjoy. Currently there are 18 sculptures along the trail, including works by local, regional and national artists. Since the first installation was debuted in 2021, thousands of arts lovers have strolled the trail to take in the sights and enjoy accessible art from national as well as locally acclaimed artists.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will have guest speakers from the City of Augusta, including Commissioners and department leaders, representatives from the Greater Augusta Arts Council and Public Art Advisory Panel, as well as some arts entertainment (to be announced). Light refreshments will be served. All who attend will receive a free voucher for a guided tour of the trail to be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 12:00 p.m.
