A Slow and Gradual Change – Works by Joseph Kameen Exhibition Reception

The Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art at Augusta University is pleased to present A Slow and Gradual Change, a solo exhibition by painter Joseph Kameen. The exhibition will be on view from October 20, 2025, through January 2, 2026. A public reception will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Kameen’s paintings often explore everyday settings and the quiet moments that surround daily routines. “In my work, I am interested in the role that routine events play in self-awareness and identity, and in the ways that internal experiences and external spaces can more easily overlap during these quiet moments,” he explains. “My paintings frequently depict domestic subjects in the moments just before or after an event, and the ambiguity and mystery that emerges when our emotions intertwine with our environment.”

Kameen is a painter based in South Carolina, where he is an associate professor of art at the University of South Carolina Aiken. Originally from Pittsburgh, he earned his BFA in painting and sculpture from Boston University and his MFA in painting from Indiana University Bloomington. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in locations including New York, London, Berlin, and Greece. It has been featured in publications such as Friend of the Artist, Emboss Magazine, and PIKCHUR Magazine.

The Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art welcomes the public to view Kameen’s work in this thoughtful exhibition.
