Intern Insights with Dawn

October 2026 | Dawns Final Post

This will be my final post as my time with Arts Council is coming to an end. I have only been interning with the Arts Council for three months, but I have gained so much in my short time here. I initially applied for this internship because I didn’t want to take another upper-level Art History… I didn’t realize how valuable this experience would be for me personally, especially as a working artist/business owner.

I feel as though I have strengthened my organizational and task-management skills while also expanding my proficiency with new software. I thought that, at my age, I might have a hard time adapting to new tools and processes, but with the right leadership and guidance, I was able to pick up so much in such a short amount of time.

It has been a privilege to witness firsthand the tremendous dedication of the Arts Council staff behind-the-scenes.  They work tirelessly to create a wonderful experience for everyone – the volunteers, attendees, artists, vendors, and so many others – while also navigating challenges and feedback from all sides.  I honestly don’t know how they do it year in and year out to make the festival a success. I definitely have a deeper appreciation for ALL the people who work and/or volunteer here and for everything they do to make Arts in the Heart what it is.

To the next intern, I leave you with this: Show up, get involved, and make the most out of every opportunity. You’ll get out of it what you put into it… even if that means you’ll have to fold a couple thousand shirts.
