05 Jan Gallery Tour: Brown Sugar Stitcher’s Quilt Guild at Lucey Craft Laney Museum
Please enjoy this installment of Gallery ?Tours,?periodic visual tours of exhibitions showing in the Augusta area. Rather than cataloguing the art featured in the gallery spaces, these photo tours?are intended to share details of the artwork, as if you were there yourself.
In November & December 2016, the Lucey Craft Laney Museum featured the quilts of the Brown Sugar Stitcher’s Guild.
The Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild of Atlanta, GA is a diverse group of African-American quilters from all over the metropolitan area. The crafters of this guild have gained popularity both regionally and nationally. This is their fourth visit to the museum, becoming a staple of the November to December schedule.
Christina Berkshire, Arts Council Administration Manager, visited the Museum to document the exhibit. In addition to photographing each work in its entirety, she got a little closer with her camera to document the shotsbelow. “I was blown away by the details of these works of art,” she said. “My mother quilted when I was young and I remember her spending hours upon hours working on intricate stitches. Quilting is truly a form of high art, and seeing the Brown Sugar Stitcher’s Quilt Guild’s display drives that home.”
