Across Arts Day and My Desk

This month starts with my daughters’ birthdays.  November 3 and November 5—Happy Birthday to my 2 glorious girls.  Aside from birthday thoughts, my desk and mind are full of a jumble of events.  Next Thursday is our Arts Day Luncheon with Leadership Augusta Arts day wrapped around the lunch event.  Working with Kristi Jilson (Westobou), Rhian Swain (RedWolf) and Karen Gordon (all things Jazz and Food), we worked hard to craft a day that shows how the Arts connect to so many aspects of the Augusta Community: economic development, healing, small business development, history, education, crime prevention….and more.  Of course, the Arts are always the fun part of this discussion.

Our Arts Calendar spent a few weeks in the hospital, but our Calendar Coordinator is now working hard to upload local information so you can fill your days with the wide variety of arts events.  As far as my personal imminent arts activities, this morning my husband reviewed our plans for next weekend.  It included Friday night at Southern Soul and Song, Saturday night we have a birthday party and Sunday is the Lillie Morris Show at the Frame Shoppe.  Nice.

Earlier this year the Arts Council received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to fund projects by local artists.  I love getting project notices and adding them to my personal calendar while forwarding them to the Arts Calendar.  Drake White has a cool show on December 2 on Broad Street…not to miss.   I work out with Rhian Swain so she keeps me updated on her grant progress- she is painting famous women artists; I love hearing about her research and following her posts on Facebook as she refines each painting.

I do hope you take time this season to reward yourself.  Take a stroll thru one of our galleries.  Most galleries are offering low priced art, so you can purchase a gift from a local artist while enjoying a quiet time with diverse art.  Take in a show or visit the Sculpture Trail—it comes down at the end of December.  The weather is just about perfect right now for a trail walk.

So- Relax, Enjoy and Seek Art!
