Meet the New Arts Calendar Intern – AU Student Jamie Boquist!
The Greater Augusta Arts Council is pleased to welcome a new member of the team – Jamie Boquist, our new Arts Calendar intern for the summer!
An Augusta-born artist, she is a rising senior at Augusta University with an interest in printmaking. Jamie will take on the work of loading arts and cultural events into the ever-growing Augusta Arts Calendar found at events.augustaarts.com.
Are you hosting an arts event that you would like included on the calendar? Jamie will be able to assist! Event organizers can submit their own event listings for approval, or you can email your event information to [email protected].

Gallery Receptions with the Arts Council May 31, June 7
Save the date for two very special upcoming gallery receptions with the Arts Council, the Business of Being an Artist students’ show and the current exhibition at the City Gallery.

May 31 – Vital Connections
The artists participating in this year’s “Business of Being an Artist” class will present their group exhibition, “Vital Connections,” Thursday, May 31 6-8pm at the Ann and Ellis Johnson Gallery at the Jessye Norman School of the Arts.
The series, presented annually by the Greater Augusta Arts Council and the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, forms a cohort of artists that learn the necessary skills to present a professional art exhibit and further their artistic careers.
This year’s student group include: Laura Bowers, Donald Carter, Ollie Carswell, Nancy Clements, Stephanie Gerace, Holly Curtis, Rhian Swain, and Pam Thompson

June 7 – Fusion
A reception for “Fusion: A Celebration of Modalities” currently showing at the City Gallery at the Municipal Building will be held Thursday, June 7 11:30-1pm. The show features work by regional artists and highlights several unique ways of creating art.
Featured Artists include: Colleen Beyer, Ginny Bojanowski, Dawn Cardona, Marian Owens, Bonita Martin, Rabia Rana, and Ryan Rood.

Summer Art Camps and Workshops in the CSRA
Are you a parent who is interested in sharing the joy of the arts and creativity with your kids, or even just trying to find something for them to do this summer to get them out and about? Accomplish both goals with a summer art camp! Several local arts organizations are offering camps throughout the summer to share various artistic skills with children of all ages. A snippet of the local offerings is below.
Colton Ballet School – Several workshops for dancers of all skill levels will be offered through the summer at the Colton Ballet School. They say, “The focus of Summer Workshops is on developing and enhancing a student’s technique in a relaxed, fun and creative environment.”
Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art – Classes covering all types of visual art mediums will be offered at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art this summer. Classes last all week and you can select AM or PM sessions, with additional addons for full-day sessions, lunch, and early morning dropoff/late pickup.
Jessye Norman School of the Arts – “The Jessye Norman School offers two free summer camps every year. Campers spend three weeks working in art, dance, drama, music, or photojournalism. Each camp culminates in a performance and art reception on the last day of camp.”
Camp Wonderland – “Camp Wonderland is a summer arts camp tailored specifically to the unique interests and needs of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder between the ages of 7-21. The camp will offer an enriching theater experience through music, movement, art, and drama, that encourages self-expression, social-engagement, creative exploration, and above all, fun!”
Musical Theater Camp with the Augusta Players – “Each year our summer camps provide musical theatre training in a fun environment for children 6-16. During these camps, emphasis is placed on learning the skills and craft of creating musical theatre! Each group has classes in music, dance, technical theatre and –ACTING!”

Monica Campana of Atlanta’s “Living Walls,” to present May 24
The Morris Museum of Art will be hosting Monica Campana, executive director of Atlanta’s “Living Walls” program, as part of their Art Now Contemporary Art Lecture Series on Thursday, May 24. Learn about this revolutionary public art program in our region!
May 24, 6-7pm. Located in the Morris Museum of Art, at 1 Tenth St. Admission is free. Light refreshments.
