Augusta Art Adventures: Field Botanicals
By Jamie Jackson
Max and I went to visit Field Botanicals on a sunny Thursday morning and we were excited to see the new artwork that Jason Craig wrapped around Jen’s checkout table.
She told me that the lavender is paint left over from the walls and the yellow is color-matched to the Field Botanicals branding. Her only requests for the murals had been the colors and “something floral with something at least vaguely female or feminine.” The mural is a gorgeous addition to the shop.
When you walk in you’re greeted by a sign on the door and a small, high-top table immediately to your left. Jen has a beautiful display of disposable masks, for customers who need one, and an oversized bottle of gorgeous-smelling hand sanitizer. The attention to detail made me feel comfortable enough that I was able to enjoy a bit of browsing and chatting. Jen and her staff have done a great job of arranging and displaying the store in a way that is subtly mindful of social distancing but that still makes shopping fun. That means a lot to a young mother like me during this pandemic, when just being out of the house can be stress-inducing.
We left with a $20 mystery bag and I couldn’t wait to get home to see what we’d gotten. Our haul included: two packs of organic gum (great for that sometimes-funky mask breath); an anti-aging serum; a sweetgrass braid for energy cleansing; a vial of cedar-scented essential oil; and a five-pack of rose-infused face mask treatments.
Jen also recently started carrying cotton face masks (made in the USA) including a some that have a filter pocket. She carries several indie brands of hand sanitizers, moisturizing hand soaps and even has bulk Castile soap that you can buy by volume. All this in addition to her line of body care items and a range of beauty products.
Overall, I would always recommend a trip into Field, but especially now for those who need a little respite from stay-at-home measures. Field has always been a great place for a shopping and has done a great job making life more enjoyable during this crisis.
