Talk One:
Exhibiting artists with Paul Swart from Rhino Conservation Botswana
Thursday, February 18 at 6 PM
Paul Swart volunteers his time as USA trustee of Rhino Conservation Botswana. He works with and helps raise funds for the conservation to help prevent rhinos from becoming extinct.
Rhino Conservation Botswana is working to increase and protect populations of black and white rhinos in Botswana.
Talk Two:
Exhibiting artists with Peter Blinston from Painted Dog Conservation
Thursday, February 25 at 12 PM
Wildlife conservationist and Executive Director of Painted Dog Conservation (PDC), Peter Blinston, has a lifelong mission to save the highly endangered painted dogs of Zimbabwe. He has been featured on BBC Earth and National Geographic for his work with PDC.
Painted Dog Conservation works with local populations of both humans and dogs, via conservation, education, and outreach programs, to help them not only survive in Africa, but thrive.
There will be limited in person seating, call 803-641-9094 to reserve your spot. Zoom option will also be available.

The Augusta African-American Historical Society (AAAHS) was a vision of the late Edward McIntyre, Sr. He wanted to not only preserve African-American history, but also to educate our community, especially the youth, of our rich history right here in Augusta.

The Augusta Symphony presents: America Livestream – Feb 20 | 7:30 PM
The Augusta Symphony presents a reimagined concert to feature a smaller orchestra, limited audience capacity, physical distancing, and no intermission.
Songs include: YOUSUFI Freedom, GOLIJOV Last Round, COPLAND Appalachian Spring, STUART COOLIDGE Pioneer Dances, WALKER Lyric, and TORKE Ash.
Cost: $10 per household. The link to watch the concert will be emailed 3 days prior to the performance.

THE STORY: A gripping reimagination of events the night before the assassination of the civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. On April 3, 1968, after delivering one of his most memorable speeches, an exhausted Dr. King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel while a storm rages outside. When a mysterious stranger arrives with some surprising news, King is forced to confront his destiny and his legacy to his people.

AU Writing Project Author Series – Susan Beth Pfeffer – Feb 22 | 6 PM
The AU Writing Project will welcome nine nationally known, award-winning authors to its Spring 2021 series of virtual author talks!
Author Susan Beth Pfeffer will join the AU College of Education on Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. Pfeffer’s writing career spans 35 years and 75 books. She is best-known for her series of post-apocalyptic novels, officially titled “The Life As We Knew It Series,” but often called “The Last Survivors” or “Moon Crash” series, some of which have appeared on the New York Times Bestselling List.

11th Annual Black History Jazz Concert Featuring: Preston & Weston – Feb 27 | 7 PM
One song can bring back a thousand memories! The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department is set to host the 11th Annual Black History Jazz Concert, featuring local favorites Preston & Weston.
Location: Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior & Youth Center (841 Edgefield Ave NW, Aiken, SC 29801)
Cost: Tables of six (6) seats each will vary in price based on location to the stage:
-General Admission tables ($54.00)

2021 TIFF Indie Lens Pop-Up Series | Mr. SOUL! – Feb 17 | 7 PM | FREE
Hosted by Teaneck International Film Festival
In 1968, producer Ellis Haizlip developed a new show aimed at Black audiences, one that used the familiar variety-show format to display and celebrate the breadth of Black culture. For five years, the public television series SOUL! highlighted Black literature, music, and politics, and often paired guests in unexpected juxtapositions that gave them an opportunity to shine in unique ways. Haizlip presided over the show as an unusual, unassuming host who conducted interviews with both an intense interest and laid-back style, attracting notable, eclectic figures to the show, and providing a national platform for previously unheard voices.

Milton Glaser, a luminary in the art of graphic design, had an outsized impact on those in his field and beyond. Join us for a discussion of his vast body of work as we honor his incredible legacy. A panel of designers will comment on Glaser’s work and his influence. Panelists include Gail Anderson, Walter Bernard, Seymour Chwast A’51, Steven Doyle A’78, Steven Heller, Mirko Ili´c, Jonathan Key, Ellen Lupton A’85, Reynold Ruffins A’51, and Zipeng Zhu.
