Classical Big Art Tour at the National Gallery of Art – Sept 24 | 2 – 3:30 PM | $0 – $15

This 1.5-hour virtual tour travels back in time to the beginning of the 13th century, at the start of the Italian Renaissance. The Italian Renaissance art movement was an era that valued science, nature, learning, and innovation in addition to religion and sacred art. Indeed, Italian Renaissance art was grounded in the intersections of art, religion, and society as it spread throughout Italy and greater Europe.

Track the evolution of sacred art and religious themes over the centuries. Your tour guide, Stephen, will uncover the names, histories, and artworks of artists that contributed to each of these movements, whose work does not get the attention it deserves. We will end our journey among the pastels and paint strokes of French Impressionism in the National Gallery of Art.

Throughout your time together, Stephen will delve into the lives and innovations of the artists who laid the foundation for the future of creative thinking and thousands of artistic endeavors: Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, J.M.W. Turner, and Vincent Van Gogh.

The New Pre-Raphaelites Virtual Art Exhibition – Sept 25 | 6 – 8 PM | $0 – $25

The New Pre-Raphaelites is a group exhibition held virtually in affiliation with Harcum College and curated by Era Contemporary.

The Pre-Raphaelites were are group of artists, muses and writers living and working in England in the mid 1800s in reaction to what they saw aw the unimaginative and artificial history painting of the Royal Academy. They sought to express a new emotionality, naturalness and sincerity in their works, as well as an unabashed admiration of beauty in all its forms. The name Pre-Raphaelite came from their love of direct and uncomplicated depiction of nature, before the time of Raphael.

In this epic group exhibition of over 40 artists and nearly 80 pieces, we will be exhibiting artwork that reflects all these qualities, but done by contemporary artists of today. This virtual exhibition to be a significant collection of some of the most beautiful works done my artists today who are inspired by the Pre-Raphaelites.

We can’t wait to unveil the collection at the event! You have the option of a free ticket as we don’t want anyone’s financial situation to impact their ability to attend the event. There is also an option for a paid ticket, with 50% of the proceeds going scholarships for students in need at Harcum College.
