My name is Rebecca Ranieri, and I am a new intern with the Greater Augusta Arts Council. I am currently a senior at Augusta University majoring in Business Administration. I discovered this internship through Dr. Marsha Loda who was one of my professors at AU. I am doing my internship over the summer/fall, and will be helping with the Young Artist Market at the Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival. I am looking forward to learning the ins-and-outs of how a festival runs and the planning behind it.

Besides working my internship with the Arts Council, I also have a part-time job at a gymnastics academy. I have been at this job for four years, and it is something I really enjoy. I coach the girls’ beginner, intermediate, and advanced recreational classes. The age range I coach is very large and can be anywhere between 3-13 years old. I love getting to teach the kids new skills and coming up with drills/exercises to help them learn.

Growing up, I did gymnastics for several years, but I later switched to dance. I danced at a small studio near my house, Center Stage Dance Academy, until I was about 19. Over the years, the types of dance I learned were ballet, lyrical, jazz, hip-hop, tap, and clogging. It started as something fun to do, but I fell in love with it. After dancing with them for a few years, I joined their competitive dance team. It was a lot of fun getting to do competitions and see all the other dancers from around the area.

In my free time I enjoy reading books or crocheting. My favorite types of books typically are fiction, mysteries, or fantasy. Crocheting has been a hobby of mine since I was a senior in high school. I picked up the craft for my senior project, which was making baby

blankets for the children’s hospital. It is something that helps me relax, and it is a great way to express my creativity. I typically will crochet blankets, pillows, or small stuffed animals. I have also made bags, hats, and clothing. The most recent crochet trend I have tried is tapestry. Tapestry is very intricate and time consuming; however, the result is beautiful because it looks like a picture. I have an Instagram page  that shows the projects I make.

Here are a few other fun facts about me: My favorite types of music are pop and indie, and my top artist to listen to is Taylor Swift. I don’t watch TV a whole lot, but the shows I do watch are Friends, the Office, and Bobs Burgers. The movies I usually watch are within the Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars franchises. I also love to watch the Harry Potter movies. In high school I was in marching band for all four years, and the instrument I played was the clarinet.
