Meet Tiona Orr

The Greater Augusta Arts Council is excited to welcome Tiona Orr as our new Admin and Membership Management Coordinator.

With a lifelong passion for dance and a deep commitment to creativity and community, Tiona brings an inspiring blend of organization, energy, and heart to Augusta’s arts scene. Tiona was drawn to the Arts Council because of its leadership in promoting creativity and fostering meaningful community connections.

She knew she wanted to contribute to an organization that not only supports local artists but also enriches the cultural and economic vitality of the Augusta area. In her new role, she looks forward to collaborating with artists and creative professionals, strengthening member engagement, and streamlining administrative processes. For her, it’s the ideal opportunity to pair her organizational skills with her dedication to building community.

Her vision centers on helping Augusta’s arts community continue to grow in connection and creativity. She hopes to contribute to a lasting legacy by supporting programs, building partnerships, and helping cultivate an environment where the arts bring people together.

Tiona describes community as individuals working together to create something bigger than themselves, and she sees the arts as one of the most powerful ways to spark that collective spirit. Tiona’s own artistic journey began with dance. She started at just two years old, inspired by the dancers she watched on TV who expressed confidence, emotion, and joy through movement. As she grew, she joined her school’s dance team and her church’s praise dance team, discovering how dance could be both worship and storytelling. By thirteen, she was part of her first competitive team, and under the guidance of her mentor, she continues to grow in styles including hip hop, majorette, jazz, and modern. Dance remains her foundation and continues to influence how she connects with others and expresses herself creatively.

Her love for Augusta’s arts community shines through in the experiences she cherishes. One of her favorite local events is Arts in the Heart of Augusta, a celebration she feels captures the city’s diverse, energetic, and welcoming creative spirit. Outside of work, she stays closely connected to the arts through teaching at A Creative Symphoni Dance Studio, where she introduces students of all ages to the basics of majorette dance. She also serves as the Assistant Coach of the Dazzling Elite Dance Team, where she mentors young dancers and helps them develop both artistic skill and confidence.

Tiona finds inspiration in the creative energy of the people around her. She loves attending local shows, performances, and festivals, and is continually motivated by the artists and visionaries who make Augusta such a vibrant place. When she isn’t teaching or performing, she enjoys traveling, taking spontaneous day trips, and finding new perspectives to bring back to her creative life. Though she describes herself as introverted and soft-spoken, exploring new places helps her connect with people and cultures in meaningful ways.

She also embraces the simple joys that keep her grounded. Tea is her beverage of choice, chicken tenders and fries are her go-to comfort meal, and her creative playlist includes everything from smooth R&B and jazz to upbeat hip hop. If she could bring any dancer to Augusta, she would choose Ciara, whose energy and versatility inspire both her and her students. When asked to describe herself in three words, she chose inspiring, uplifting, and dedicated, qualities that shine through in her work, her art, and her community involvement.

The Greater Augusta Arts Council is thrilled to have Tiona step into her role. Her passion, creativity, and commitment to community make her a powerful addition, and we are excited to see the impact she will have on Augusta.
