Talk Artsy to me

A Growing City Deserves a Growing Creative Community May 2026
Public Art Tour 2025

There’s something happening in Augusta.

You can feel it. New energy, new ideas, new people choosing this place and calling it home. And right alongside that growth is something just as important… creativity.

The arts are not just something we enjoy when we have time.

They shape how a city feels. They create the spaces where people gather, connect, and see themselves reflected. They are the difference between a place you pass through and a place you belong.

And right now, Augusta is becoming a place people want to belong to.

You’ve Probably Noticed… Even If You Didn’t Realize It

Art is popping up everywhere.

Gallery exhibitions are opening, artists are stepping forward, and public art is beginning to take its place across the city in a way that feels intentional and alive.

Murals, installations, performances, creative activations… all of it is building a rhythm.

That doesn’t happen by accident.

It takes coordination. It takes resources. It takes people behind the scenes who are thinking, planning, advocating, and pushing ideas forward until they become real.

And Then There’s This Side of It

I’m walking into my second Arts in the Heart as Executive Director.

Which means I’m leading while learning. Building while restructuring. Dreaming big while also making sure the day-to-day actually works.

We are creating systems, refining processes, and figuring out how to do this work at a high level in real time.

At the same time, we are navigating:

  • The elimination of city funding
  • A membership base that has room to grow
  • Federal funding for the arts that is, let’s be honest, minimal at best

So yes… we are making some things shake.

And here’s the beautiful part.

We have a team of five dynamic creatives in that office who believe in this city, who think boldly, and who come to the table with ideas that could take Augusta to the next level.

We are not short on vision.

We are ready to take on the world.

But… we can’t do it alone.

Why Membership Matters More Than You Think

Nonprofits don’t grow in isolation. They grow through access. Through community.

Through people who decide that what’s being built is worth being part of.

Membership is not just support. It’s connection. It’s visibility. It’s opportunity.

It’s how we:

  • Support artists trying to find their footing
  • Create platforms for new and emerging voices
  • Sustain programming that benefits the entire community
  • Keep the arts accessible, not exclusive

If you’ve ever said, “I love what’s happening in Augusta,” this is your moment to lean in.

A growing city deserves a growing creative community.

And honestly… why not us?

We’re Not Slowing Down Anytime Soon

We have a full season ahead, and it’s one we’re incredibly proud of.

The Augusta Music & Songwriter Festival is coming May 15–16 with two days of incredible music, powerful performances, and a lineup that brings people together.

Then we celebrate excellence at the Augusta Annual Arts Awards, honoring 17 outstanding LOCAL creatives. The evening will be set with music by JaVonne Jones a local violinist, food by a local caterer A Family Affair and a beautiful experience at St. Paul’s River Room.

And then… Arts in the Heart.

A 46-year tradition. A moment where the city shows up in full color. Applications are open now for fine artists and performers, and we are always looking for sponsors who want to align with something that truly represents Augusta.

Let’s Build This Together

This is not just about events.

It’s about building a creative ecosystem that can sustain itself, grow, and continue to serve the people who need it most. It’s about making sure that when opportunity shows up, Augusta is ready. So, if you’ve been watching, enjoying, supporting from a distance… consider this your invitation.

Join the Arts Council.

There are so many reasons why. And every one of them leads back to this simple truth: When creatives have what they need, the entire city benefits. Let’s keep building something worthy of where we’re going and as always in all ways…..
