Poetry Out Loud (POL) is an innovative program, sponsored by National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, which encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation of the written word. Structured similar to a spelling bee, winners of each classroom competition will advance to a school-wide contest. Each school’s winner competes in a regional semifinal competition. Finalists from the regional semifinals advance to the state finals, and the Georgia state champion will compete at the National Finals in Washington, D.C. All Georgia high schools are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Georgia schools that wish to participate in the 2023-2024 POL competition must register by Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at 11:59pm EST.

The State Finals competition will be held Friday, March 8, 2024, at 4:00 pm at the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta, GA.

The National Finals competition will be held April 30-May 2, 2024, in Washington D.C.

If you have questions about POL, contact The Alliance Theatre at [email protected].
