23 Apr Artist Instructors sought for veterans’ arts activities
Via Augusta VA Medical Center” The Recreation/Creative Arts Therapy Department at the Augusta VA Medical Center (Uptown) is seeking community partners to help provide regular arts activities for our veterans. There is ample space (kitchen, gymnasium, wellness room, & an arts and crafts room) for these programs and resources/supplies can be acquired if needed. All artists, art non-profits, art businesses, and creative individuals are welcome to participate.
We currently work with the Morris Museum of Art (ArtReach) and the Augusta Symphony (Community Chords) to help expand creative offerings within our VA and in the community to our veterans. Our music therapy clinic currently works with approx. 40-50 veterans each week in groups and individual settings and our recreation therapist also work with a large number of veterans as well. We hope to provide more creative, non-music, experiences to our veterans to not only help them engage with their VA but also their community.
Group sizes can range from 2-10 veterans (15 max) and would like to offer these groups on a consistent schedule. Groups would need to happen Mon.-Fri. between the hours of 8-4:30 and there are opportunities for evening and weekends as well. Contact Stephen Montgomery at 706-733-0188 at ext. 7731 or email at [email protected] if interested.
