Birdhouse-Themed Design Competition
Garden City Festival at Sacred Heart
Friday and Saturday, April 21 -22, 2023
The Garden City Festival at Sacred Heart is approaching fast! We look forward to the warmer
weather of April and the beautiful flowers of springtime. We invite you to share your energy and
creativity by participating in a competition that will inspire and delight the patrons of the Garden
City Festival. The completed pieces will be silent-auctioned off throughout the Preview Party and
Garden City Festival. This event is the largest annual fundraiser to support the ongoing preservation
of Sacred Heart Cultural Center.
Raw Materials: With an entry fee of $25, each participant will be provided with the same starting
template: an unassembled unfinished wooden birdhouse, a flat platform, a 4” x 4” post and a 2’ x 2’
base for the bottom. Participants are given complete discretion of how to decorate the birdhouse,
platform and post and to fill the 4 square feet of space at the bottom with plants and organic
materials. All products used in the final entry must stay with the design for the purchaser to enjoy.
The raw materials of birdhouse and structure will be available for pick-up at Sacred Heart on
Monday, March 20, 2023.
Delivery of Entry: The final entry must be delivered to Sacred Heart on Tuesday, April 18 or
Wednesday, April 19 between 9:00 am– 5:00 pm.
Prizes: A three-member panel will judge the work based on a series of
written criteria (see below). A blue ribbon and cash award of $250 will be
given to the judges’ choice. Patrons will also vote on a People’s Choice Award
throughout the Festival. The People’s Choice Award winner will be
announced at the end of the Festival and will also receive a certificate and
a $250 award.

• Effective use of provided structure
• Theme and expression
• Form and function of birdhouse
Use of Plants: 50 points
• Effective use of color, texture and form
• Diversity of plants
• Suitability to design
To participate, call Sacred Heart at 706-826-4700 to pay your $25 entry fee and
plan to pick up your raw materials the week of March 20 between 9:00-5:00 at Sacred Heart .
