Part-time position: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (8-12 hrs / week)

Start date: July 2024

Salary based on experience ($8.00 -10.00/hr)

 

The Greater Augusta Arts Council is seeking an organized, dependable, dynamic student, recent graduate, or individual seeking part-time work with a passion for the arts in Augusta’s River Region. It is the mission of the Arts Council to enrich the quality of life for citizens and visitors by advancing vibrant cultural arts. We do so through programing events such as the Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival, WetPaint Party, Annual Arts Awards, art exhibitions in our two galleries, and more. We are in search of an entry-level team member to bring their own creativity to the table. This entry-level position offers a fantastic blend of data entry and assisting in volunteer management along with the opportunity to engage with our vibrant arts community and learn about non-profit arts work in our creative community.

 

Position Overview:

The Calendar Coordinator & Volunteer Assistant provides essential support in entering and approving arts and culture events shared to the Arts Council’s free Augusta Arts Calendar, as well as submitting Arts Council events to other local and regional arts and events calendars. As a Volunteer Assistant, this individual will work as an assistant to our Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival Volunteer Manager, as well as help recruit and retain volunteers for our other arts events. This entails keeping an open line of communication to our festival volunteers by sending updates and reminders about schedules and meetings. As well as throughout the year for our annual events such as the WetPaint Party and Art Sale, Augusta Annual Arts Awards, Arts Day, Gallery hangings, and more. This position will have some weekends and nights required. All employees must be available to work the entirety of the Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival weekend (September 20 – 22, 2024).

Responsibilities:

  • Calendar:
    • Manage the online Augusta Arts Calendar (training provided):
      • Approving Arts and Culture events submitted to our Augusta Arts Calendar
      • Entering all Arts Council events
      • Researching and adding arts and culture events happening locally
      • Creating a “top 6 picks” event links post for the monthly newsletter
  • Submit Arts Council events to local and regional event calendars including the Destination Augusta event calendar, Augusta Magazine, TV Stations and Georgia Events calendars.
  • Volunteer:
    • Assist in obtaining, scheduling and communicating with volunteers for our annual events such as Private Views, Annual Awards, WetPaint Party, and more.
      • Maintaining lists of volunteers and opportunities
      • Building relationships with volunteer groups, schools and businesses
      • Send out thank-yous
      • Nominate volunteers for awards and rewards such as our Volunteer of the Year award for Annual Arts Awards or free tickets to one of our arts events (like promenade & paint).
      • Includes follow up communications and surveys.
  • Work closely with Arts in the Heart Volunteer Manager to provide support in managing festival volunteers.
      • Includes helping maintain schedules, communication with volunteers, volunteer orientations and check-in during festival.
      • Will be working alongside area managers for multiple areas of the festival as well, to understand their needs.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School or College Student, 16 years or older, or recent graduate.
  • Cheerful and Engaging: This role involves public interaction. This role requires someone who is outgoing, engaging, and upbeat.
  • Passionate about the Arts:A deep love for the arts and a genuine excitement for promoting creativity and cultural experiences.
  • Event Experience:Experience in event planning and coordination, with a knack for creating memorable and engaging experiences.
  • Organized:Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks with ease.
  • Tech Savvy: Proficient in MS Office applications, with a willingness to learn new software systems, including programs such as WordPress, WuFoo, Little Green Light, Constant Contact, OutLook, etc. Previous experience in these programs is preferred but not required.
  • Valid Driver’s License: Some driving may be needed for special events or occasions.
