Opportunity Description
The Roswell Arts Fund is creating a Local/Regional Registry of Pre-Qualified Public Art Mural Artists, in an effort to streamline the artist selection process for a range of upcoming mural projects. Artists who are chosen for inclusion in the Registry will be eligible to be considered for future mural projects in Roswell, Georgia in both the public and private sector. Inclusion in the final Registry will be for a period of two years (2018-2020) and artists may update their work samples and related information during that time. Inclusion in the Registry does not guarantee a commission.
Possible outdoor mural project locations may include but are not limited to a range of sites (walls, pavement, signal boxes) as well as painting pianos for outdoor exhibition. Projects may be temporary or permanent.

Roswell Public Art Intent and Goals
Roswell’s Public Art for People and Places seeks art of redeeming quality that enhances the aesthetic experience of public and private places. Public art will be innovative and embody our city’s Modern Spirit.Southern Soul.
An artist, or artist team, is expected to design artwork that:
- Reflects a high level of aesthetic and technical quality;
- Presents opportunities for enhanced community engagement;
- Transforms a space and user experience;
- Contributes to a local/regional dialogue on the arts;
- Enriches the City of Roswell’s public art inventory;
- Is low maintenance and vandal-resistant.
Artist Eligibility
- This call is open only to professional artists or artist teams who reside in Georgia, preferably in the Atlanta region, or who are able to establish temporary residence in the area during the lifespan of any future project. There will be no expenses paid for transportation or housing.
- A professional artist is defines as a “practitioner in the visual arts with an original, self conceptualized body of work, generally recognized as a professional possessing serious intent and ability”
- Students enrolled in degree programs are not eligible to apply. Applicants must be 18 or older.
Budget
Project budgets will vary on a case-by-case basis and will be determined by considerations of size, location, private or public ownership, and other project specific factors.
The final artist budget for each project must include all project costs including but not limited to costs for: artists fees for design and implementation, other design costs if any, community engagement and presentations, equipment, materials and supplies, production and installation including site preparation, artist’s studio and artists’s own overhead costs, permits, taxes and license fees, and bonds and insurance, as required. A final budget must be approved by Roswell Arts Fund before a project can proceed.
Public Artist Selection Process and Panel:
The Public Artist Selection Panel will include various representatives of Roswell Arts Fund and other key stakeholders dependent on the specific project. At least one person on the Panel will be an artist, one will be a community representative, and at least one person on the panel will serve as a Conservator.
The Public Artist Selection Panel will consider all applications at one time. Those artists selected will remain in the registry for two year. The Public Artist Selection Panel is not required to select from among submitted applications and reserves the right to invite artists who do not apply.
General Review Criteria:
Artists and artist teams will be reviewed and rated based on their submitted work samples from other completed projects. Review criteria will include but not be limited to:
- Aesthetic excellence of past projects
- Demonstrated site-specific designs
- Demonstrated project management (on time and on budget) and collaboration with other artists, design professionals, or community members
- Work products submitted for review reflect materials and methods appropriate to creating visual murals in outdoor public spaces
Submission Requirements:
Applications must be received no later than December 20, 2017

- Submitted applications will serve as an agreement to the conditions herein stated for public art murals.
- Applications must include all of the following items; incomplete applications will be rejected.
1) Statement of Interest: In no more than one page using no smaller than 12pt font, outline the artist’s interest in participating. Please include the artist’s full name, address and complete contact information including any professional websites. Statements greater than one page will not be considered.Please address the following in your statement:
- Describe your interest in creating public murals and integrating your work into public spaces
- Share your experience in public mural projects (please specify types) including your roes and responsibilities
- Demonstrate your approach to involving community input
2) Résumé/CV (two-page maximum): We seek strong professional qualifications and high-quality artwork that demonstrates originality and technical competency. Include education; experience; public exhibitions and commissions on a similar scale; awards, grants or fellowships; works in public and private sectors. Please specify examples of working with multi-disciplinary teams (e.g. architects, landscape architects, civil and transportation engineers). Artists will be required
to collaborate with a diverse group of individuals including installers, marketing professionals, sponsors, city employees and volunteers.
3) Images and Descriptions of Past Work: Each artist may submit a minimum of four(4) and a maximum of eight (8) images that represent samples of your past completed mural artwork. For each image state title, date of completion, location, dimensions, significant materials and budget if publicly available. If you were the member of a team or otherwise worked with other artists on a project you are submitting for consideration, please clearly state your actual role in the creation of the work. Each email submission (application and/or images) cannot exceed 10MB.
4)Two professional references. Include the name, affiliated organization, email and phone number of references who can speak to the artist’s ability to meet deadlines and work with the community.
If applying as artist team, please designate one team member as the primary contact and provide complete contact information for that person.
Artists will be notified by January 31, 2018.
