02 Jun Call For Artists: Big Sky Documentary Film Festival – Open For 2021 Submissions
Via Big Sky: The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival is now open for submissions, seeking documentary film entries in consideration for the 18th annual event planned for February 2021. The festival accepts submissions of non-fiction films of all forms, lengths, subject matters and genres.
Selected for the 4th year running by MovieMaker Magazine’s list of 50 Festivals Worth the Entry Fee, Big Sky is the largest documentary film festival in the western United States, showcasing a broad range of World, International, US and Northwest premieres. Big Sky is an Oscar-qualifying event for short documentaries in two categories and hosts over 200 visiting artists during a 10-day festival. A competitive event, Big Sky offers cash awards for Best Documentary Feature, Best Documentary Short, Best Mini-Doc, and the Big Sky Award. In addition to screenings, Big Sky hosts the DocShop filmmaker’s forum, a 5-day industry conference geared towards filmmakers, innovators, students, and media industry leaders that explores cutting-edge ideas shaping the field of documentary film today. DocShop culminates with the Big Sky Pitch for works-in-progress.

Earlybird Deadline – July 10, 2020
Regular Deadline – September 30, 2020
Late Deadline – October 16, 2020
Big Sky welcomes an audience of over 20,000 to the beautiful mountain town of Missoula, Montana, a destination event with local flavor and international guests. Featuring a variety of public screenings, the Native Filmmaker Initiative, youth outreach, VIP parties and industry events, BSDFF is an ideal setting for filmmakers to premier new work and develop lasting relationships with fellow filmmakers and industry. The 18th annual festival is scheduled to take place February 19-28, 2021.
