22 Oct Calls for Art: ArtFields 2020

ArtFields started in 2013 with a simple goal: honor the artists of the Southeast with a week’s worth of celebration and competition in the heart of a traditional Southern small town. The competition and exhibition offers more than $140,000 in cash prizes. The winners of two People’s Choice Awards are determined by the votes of people visiting ArtFields; a panel of art professionals selects all the other awards, including the $50,000 Grand Prize and $25,000 Second Place award.
Up to 400 works of art will be on display in locally-owned venues, from renovated 1920s warehouses and professional art spaces such as Jones-Carter Gallery and TRAX Visual Art Center to the library, the history museum, the Ronald E. McNair Life History Center, restaurants, boutiques and other shops. During ArtFields, what was once one of South Carolina’s most prosperous agricultural communities becomes a living art gallery as we recognize, celebrate and share the artistic talent of the Southeast.

We are glad you are reading this. It means that you might want to submit for ArtFields 2020 and win part of the $145,000+ in cash prizes. If selected, you and your artwork will be in one of the Southeast’s major art events from April 24-May 2, 2020 in Lake City, S.C. Your work will be among hundreds exhibited throughout our downtown in galleries, warehouses, restaurants, shops, and other venues. Thousands of people will see it, including art curators, collectors, critics, and news media. Please look at the rules and prize information before you submit.

People’s Choice 2D – $12,500
People’s Choice 3D – $12,500
Merit Awards- $2,000 (10 awards)
Category Awards (Digital/New Media & Film, Drawing, Installation & Performance, Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture & Objects, Textile) – $1,500 (10 awards)
State Awards – $1,000 (12 awards, one per state)
RULE CHANGE: NO WORKS-IN-PROGRESS WILL BE ACCEPTED
We will no longer accept works-in-progress as submissions to ArtFields. It’s much more difficult to rate work in progress and often these submissions don’t capture the true talent of each artist. If the work cannot be completed by the end of the submission window, we encourage you to perfect the piece and submit it next year! Check out rule 3d for more on this change.
