The Greater Augusta Arts Council, on behalf of the City of Augusta, GA is seeking artists to design and paint sidewalk murals at 12 locations for the 2021 “It All Flows Into the Savannah” Storm Drain Mural Project. The project is part of the City’s education and outreach efforts to raise awareness about storm water pollution. Background: When it rains, storm water runs over pavement, sidewalks, and yards picking up oil, litter, yard waste, chemicals, and other pollutants. The polluted storm water then flows down storm drains and through storm water pipes which empty directly into our local creeks, streams, and rivers without treatment. Storm drains can also become a hot spot for illicit dumping – trash, grease, pet waste, paint, cigarettes, and more. These pollutants make their way to the Savannah River, damaging the health of our waterways and adversely impacting adjacent flora and fauna.

Locations/Size: Storm drains to be painted will be located in the Downtown Augusta area. (See location listing at the end of this call.) Designs must cover the sidewalk area directly above the storm drain and may extend to the street-facing mouth of raised drains, and a maximum of one (1) foot into the roadway, per traffic safety rules. The area covered is dependent on the roughly half-gallon of total paint provided. There are two exceptions: storm drains on the Common’s internal streets should have a mural stretch between them. A site visit is recommended.

Design concepts must be received by March 8, 2021, by emailing them to [email protected] or mailing to: Greater Augusta Arts Council, Attn: Pax Bobrow at 1301 Greene Street, Augusta, GA 30901. Selected artists will be notified by March 30, 2021 and storm drain murals must be painted by April 5, 2021. Artists will be provided with paint and receive a $500 stipend for each mural painted.
