Since 1947, Augusta Training Shop has provided a unique work environment to mentally
and physically disabled adults. This non-profit organization has offered rare avenues to
the disabled adults to pursue their artistic abilities in a family like atmosphere and earn
wages. Their talents span from furniture restoration, seat weaving (caning & rushing),
metal polishing, and to painting despite disabilities such as cerebral palsy, MR, deafness
and blindness. There are no physical or emotional boundaries that could dampen their
enthusiasm or diminish the artisans’ pride in their work product. Augusta Training Shop is a
place of hope, inspiration and perseverance. We take pride in the tradition of practicing
the dying arts.

Augusta Training Shop is searching for an artist/educator/student who wants to work
part-time to combine his/her skills with our talented team in a challenging and rewarding
environment. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible to provide art
instruction for our special artisans. Must have a passion for enhancing the lives of our
employees through the arts, with a desire to understand and internalize the mission,
purpose, values and goals of Augusta Training Shop, Inc.

We would love to have someone who could help our employees in the areas, but not
limited to: Painting (Oil, acrylics, charcoal, watercolor, chalk, pastels, pen/ink, sketching,
pencil) mixed art, collage, unconventional media, assemblage, fiber arts, weaving
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
 Create and organize projects based on employee skills; prepare and gather
materials before class.
 Able to assess appropriateness of lessons and materials
 Perform demonstrations for the class on technique and process.
 Assist employees with the completion and generation of art projects.
 Supervise and provide direction
 Collect art materials; appropriate cleanup of classroom after class.
 Return materials to proper place.
 Must be able to multi-task; be productive, focused, and flexible in a creative &
sometimes chaotic environment.
 Have a natural ability to interact and communicate effectively with people of all
ages and backgrounds.
 Demonstrate a pleasant and professional manner.
 Able to work independently with minimal oversight.
 Candidate will need a reliable source of transportation with insurance and a valid
driver’s license.
 Flexible schedule with availability during regular business hours
 Must pass background check
 No weekends or weeknights
 Must be 18 years of age
 PAY is dependent on experience
