VIA The United State Department of Arts and Culture (USDAC): The U.S. Department of Arts and Culture is seeking a collaborative, visionary, experienced, movement-oriented leader to help steward and evolve the people-powered department at a moment of significant transformation and opportunity. We envision a teammate who believes in, and has ties to grassroots justice movements, whether hyper-local or national.
The person in this role will join a collaborative effort to grow capacity and systems, build partnerships and support the USDAC growing into its next chapter. They will contribute to “holding the whole”— helping to develop long-range strategies, ensuring solid organizational foundations, and helping to create the conditions through which a growing team can support and activate the USDAC’s network of 30,000+ artists, cultural organizers, educators, policy-makers, arts administrators, activists and allies.
We are looking for a value-aligned collaborator with significant leadership experience in organizational development and a commitment to building the cultural and movement ecosystem that the USDAC is a part of. A successful candidate will have an appreciation for and understanding of the power of cultural work
and creativity in movement-building.
This role will ideally begin in March 2020, beginning with a 12-month contract depending on availability and skillset. Our team is currently composed of four contractors, all compensated at an equal solidarity rate. Initial contract would be for a rate of $39,000-$46,800, depending on agreed upon scope. As a note, our team has historically been composed of contractors managing multiple projects, but we are actively moving toward bringing team members into staff positions with benefits. This person should be excited about the opportunity to support in the development of organizational processes, capacity and strategy in a time of significant internal and external transition. This person would be “lead bird” alongside USDAC’s Co-Director of Power and Possibility, and a small, dedicated team of BIPOC project leads.
