15 Apr Creative Career: Theatre Production Coordinator at Augusta University’s Maxwell Theatre
The Production Coordinator serves as a technical theater subject matter expert that supports engagement and retention of students through student employment, appropriate facilities management, and maintaining an environment that reflects our university’s values. The Production Coordinator provides full-cycle support (from inquiry to post-event recap) for campus colleagues and others interested in using the Maxwell Theatre. The Coordinator advances and implements all technical aspects of performances, lectures and rehearsals, including sound, lighting, projection, set-build/strike, load-in, and loud out. Types of performances and rehearsals vary greatly from plays and concerts, to lectures and recitals, to dance and film, to exhibitions and more. Presenters include the Maxwell Theatre and other University departments/units, student organizations and rental clients.
The Production Coordinator works under the supervision of the Production Manager and supervises student employees. As a supervisor, the Production Coordinator manages institutional processes related to the recruitment, hiring, performance management, timekeeping, and termination of technical student employees. The Coordinator also assists the professional staff in the leadership and student development of all student staff. The Coordinator assists in the maintenance and upkeep of the facility and equipment, to ensure a safe environment for all who use the facility. Safety is the first responsibility of the position and as such the Production Coordinator will ensure that staff, users, and guests follow safety guidelines.
The Production Coordinator will also be called upon to serve as an engaged member of our cross-functional Maxwell team. They are expected to be a productive member of our collaborative environment ultimately supporting a thriving campus environment for all of our students, and production partners of all types. Using feedback, campus colleague perspectives, and evidence-based practices the Coordinator works diligently to promote a welcoming and inclusive theater experience.
The Coordinator will work independently with little or no supervision. The work schedule varies greatly by the theater production schedule and will include, days, evenings and weekends. Performance schedules and Departmental needs dictate strict deadlines and the nature of the work involves frequent interruptions.
