15 Jun Painted Piano Project Call for Art | JNSA | Due July 2, 2023
Call for Artists:
Painted Piano Project
Originally called Project Forte, JNSA’s Painted Piano project puts
musical and visual arts in the hands of the community. Inspired by
research on the public art plan initiated by the Greater Augusta Arts
Council in 2013, the project officially began in 2018. The initial
pianos were donated by Jamie Garvey of St. John United Methodist
Church. Between this initial donation and an art show by artist Troy
Campbell created from a deconstructed piano, the piano project
was set into motion, resulting in a total of 12 pianos painted and
installed in various locations in the community since 2018, including
outside of the JNSA main campus building at 739 Green Street.
The latest piano in the series. painted bv Stacy Swider. was
dedicated on January 10th. 2023 at the Cyber Center in
downtown Augusta.
Jessye Norman School of the Arts is pleased to announce that we are looking for three artists to paint one piano each. The artists will be selected by a juried committee to paint one of the three available pianos and will be given a stipend of $1000 each (including supplies).
