The Greater Augusta Arts Council is inviting the community to help shape the future of public art in Augusta by voting for their favorite sculptures along the Augusta Sculpture Trail.
Since its launch in 2021, the Augusta Sculpture Trail has transformed downtown Augusta and the Riverwalk into an outdoor gallery featuring works by artists from across the country. What began with 10 sculptures on temporary loan has grown into 18 sculptures, with eight already permanently installed thanks to community support and strategic investment in public art.
Community feedback plays an important role in determining which sculptures may be recommended for purchase and permanent placement within Augusta’s public art collection. Your vote helps Arts Council commissioners understand which works resonate most with residents and visitors and which pieces you would like to see remain part of our city’s landscape for years to come.
Accessible public art enriches everyday life by bringing creativity into shared spaces where everyone can experience it. Public art helps define a community’s identity, inspires pride, encourages connection, and creates opportunities for cultural engagement.
Beyond its artistic value, public art also contributes to economic development by attracting visitors, supporting local businesses, increasing foot traffic, and enhancing public spaces. Investments in public art help create vibrant, welcoming places that benefit residents and visitors alike.
Permanent sculpture purchases are made possible through a combination of grant funding, private donations, and support from the City of Augusta. These investments help strengthen Augusta’s cultural landscape while supporting tourism, economic growth, and community development.
Whether you’re a longtime supporter of public art or discovering the Sculpture Trail for the first time, your voice matters. Take a moment to explore the trail and vote for the sculptures you’d like to see become a permanent part of Augusta’s public art collection.
