Chad Cole: Land and Lore
November 1 – November 29, 2024
Opening Reception: Friday, November 1, 6 – 8 PM
CANDL Fine Art announces the upcoming exhibition of Chad Cole’s
latest work, Land and Lore, which opens on November 1, 2024, and runs through
November 29. The show will feature a series of oil paintings and prints that explore
themes rooted in the Southern landscape and cultural memory.
Chad Cole’s art reflects a deep engagement with place and personal history. “I paint
because of an unceasing desire to understand, preserve, and process my lived
experiences and memories,” Cole notes. His work draws from the textures of the South
—its literature, its history, and its vanishing landmarks—offering scenes that explore
identity and memory through a regional lens.
In his paintings, Cole frequently portrays forgotten or abandoned spaces, inviting
viewers to reflect on the transient nature of place and time. His use of tone and light
heightens the emotional atmosphere of each piece, achieved through layering waxes
and glazes. The muted palette of earth tones and greys adds to the mood, creating
landscapes that are introspective and meditative.
Land and Lore presents a range of pieces that capture the essence of the Southern
experience. Each work tells a story or hints at a fading memory, shaped by Cole’s
careful attention to balance and structure, drawing inspiration from artists like Poussin
and Cézanne. An opening reception will take place on Friday, November 1, from 6 to 8 PM, where
guests can meet Chad Cole, view the collection, and discuss the stories behind his art.
