HEADLINE: Free 6th Annual Sand Hills Community Center Summer Youth Program activities conducted in-person & hybrid from June 12-16 and June 26-30, 2023

 

WHAT: Free 6th Annual Sand Hills Community Center Summer Youth Program is for girls and boys ages 10-14 who are 6th, 7th and 8th graders  from Sand Hills community. The program gives dozens of students the opportunity to experience in-person and Zoom activities that involve singing, dancing, painting, financial literary and athletic training ending with awards, prizes, t-shirts and culminating events.

The students will be taught by several renowned instructors; Karen Brown, Baruti, Russell Joel Brown, Pepper, Funmi and others.

 

WHEN: The program’s first week starts on June 12 to June 16, and the second week is from June 26 to June 30, 2023. Classes are held from Monday through Friday each week, 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily with culminating events on Friday, June 16 and Friday, June 30 at 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

WHO: The 6th Annual Sand Hills Community Center Summer Youth Program is presented by En Pointe Plus Dance Mastery Institute, the City of Augusta, Augusta, Richmond County Board of Education, Contemporary Ballet Theatre, Augusta Commission, and Augusta Recreation & Parks Department. The program was founded by Creative and Program Director Karen Brown. Ms. Brown is a native of Augusta, Georgia who spent 22 years as a Principal Ballerina touring the world as a featured artist, master teacher and lecturer with the Dance Theatre of Harlem, an international ballet company when it was under the direction of the company’s founder, the late Arthur Mitchell. She’s had a long career of teaching in the dance world and has received numerous awards. In fall 2020, she was hired as a new Assistant Professor of Ballet at the University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory.
