Business of Being an Artist Class Kicks Off at Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art

Thursday, January 26 was the first session of the ?Business of Being An Artist? Workshop series at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art (www.ghia.org), presented in partnership with the Greater Augusta Arts Council. An expansion of the Arts Council?s ?Aspirations? workshop series, this 8-week course will inform 9 artists on the best practices of producing and promoting a professional exhibition, ending in their own gallery show held in March at the Ann & Ellis Johnson Gallery at the Jessye Norman School of the Arts.

Instructor Freida Dean, a local artist and educator at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, will facilitate the 8 sessions, which will feature local arts professionals sharing their experiences. The cohort of local artists that make up this year?s Business of Being an Artist are the following:

A public reception for the artists? culminating Gallery show will be held March 16, 6-8pm at the Jessye Norman School of the Arts. Art will be for sale and feedback from the general public and local arts business professionals will be welcomed.

The Arts Council thanks Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art and their Education Coordinator, Erica Pastecki, for their work in making this workshop series possible. The Arts Council also thanks the Jessye Norman School of the Arts for use of the gallery space for the final gallery show. Fees for the class were made affordable for emerging artists through a grant, written by the Arts Council, from the Creel-Harison Foundation.
