25 Jun “Modern Americana” in the Augusta & Co. Gallery to Celebrate America250!
The Greater Augusta Arts Council is proud to present Modern Americana, a group exhibition featuring artists from across the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) at the Augusta & Co. Gallery in downtown Augusta. The exhibition is part of the nationwide America250 celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Inspired by the Americana artistic tradition, Modern Americana explores themes of American culture, history, identity, and everyday life through a contemporary lens. While traditional Americana artwork often evokes nostalgia through depictions of rural landscapes, folklore, iconic symbols, and scenes of daily life, this exhibition invites artists to reinterpret those themes in ways that reflect the realities and experiences of modern America.
The exhibition draws inspiration from artists whose work has contributed to the Americana narrative, including Augusta native Jasper Johns, Edward Hopper, Anna Mary Robertson “Grandma” Moses, William H. Johnson, Keith Haring, and Faith Ringgold. Through diverse artistic styles and perspectives, participating artists examine what it means to be both an Augustan and an American in the twenty-first century.
By highlighting Augusta’s unique cultural identity and the varied experiences of its residents, Modern Americana presents a collection of stories that together create a richer portrait of contemporary American life. The exhibition encourages visitors to reflect on the nation’s past, celebrate its present, and consider the many voices that contribute to its future.
Featured artists include Leonard “Porkchop” Zimmerman, Clarissa Gainey, Deepti Malik, Karey Santos, Lea Rigdon, and Ronda Bryce.
Modern Americana will be on view at the Augusta & Co. Gallery, located at 1010 Broad Street in downtown Augusta. Admission is free and open to the public with an artist reception on Friday, June 3, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m..
