EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

The Greater Augusta Arts Council of Augusta, GA seeks a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as the full time Executive Director to advance the mission and agenda of the organization. The Greater Augusta Arts Council provides innovative programs and services to artists, arts organizations, educators, youth and the general public.

Mission Statement

The mission of The Greater Augusta Arts Council is to enrich the quality of life for citizens and visitors in the Augusta River Region by advancing cultural arts.  

Role and Responsibilities

The Executive Director serves as the leader of the Arts Council, works closely with and reporting to the President of the Board of Directors. The Executive Director also directs and administers all programs, operations and policies in addition to supervising a professional staff.

Primary areas of responsibility include:

Strategic Planning – develops and implements the organization’s Strategic Plan and annual action plans in conjunction with the Board of Directors.

Program Development, Event Planning/Implementation, and Management – develops, implements and supervises programs and services that are consistent with the mission of the organization and Strategic Plan and that meet the needs of the members of the organization and the community that is served. 

Fund Development/Grant Oversight and Fiscal Management – together with the Board, develops and manages the fundraising and financial strategies of the organization; develops an annual budget for approval by the Board and the treasurer and an accounting firm to ensure proper financial management.

Staff Leadership and Management – motivates and develops a professional staff, hires, terminates, supervises and evaluates staff; coordinates staff collaboration with the Board committees, volunteers, and partner organizations.

Community Relations – develops effective working relationships within the community to ensure that the arts are represented in the community-at-large 

Advocacy – serves as the chief spokesperson for the Arts Council in the community; articulates and communicates the value of the arts in improving our quality of life and promotes community support of the arts and the Arts Council. Builds and maintains relationships with local leaders and elected officials.

Ethics: Conducts all business at the highest standard of integrity ensuring that all activities are legal and ethical. 

Some Travel Required.

Work schedule:  A flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends,

Experience/Qualifications

  • A college degree from an accredited 4-year college/university, with a preference for candidates with a Master’s Degree in Arts Management, business or nonprofit management, or an arts field such as music, theater, dance, visual/digital arts, etc.
  • Work experience relevant to the position includes employment by an arts organization, non-profit corporation, or other for-profit entity and includes experience such as management, personnel supervision, program or contract management, marketing, accounting, and grant writing.
  • A working knowledge of software programs such as office Word, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, web design, etc.
  • Ability to commute or relocate to Augusta GA.
  • Proven record as a successful fundraiser
  • Excellent written, oral, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong planning, organizational and analytical skills

·       Able to work with all sectors of the community, the Board of Directors and staff.

·       Ability to positively motivate and develop staff, board, and volunteers
