Augusta to Celebrate Princess Augusta’s Legacy with Sculpture Ribbon Cutting, Day Dedication, and Women’s Wellness Walk

AUGUSTA, GA — The City of Augusta, Augusta Woman’s Club, The Greater Augusta Arts Council and Georgia Rehabilitation Institute along with community partners will celebrate the 307th birthday of Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha, Augusta’s namesake, on Monday, November 30, 2026 along the Augusta Riverwalk. The evening begins at 5 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and dedication of the new Princess Augusta sculpture, followed by the Women’s Wellness Walk from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This sculpture was a collaborative effort from Georgia based creatives Allie Haskell-Hansen, with assistance from Daniel Stewart, and fabricated by Trent Hubbard. This project was funded in part through the Georgia Rehabilitation Institute. The sculpture, once installed, will be donated to the City of Augusta’s public art collection as permanent fixture along the Augusta Sculpture Trail. The celebration will also include the re-unveiling of The Novel Idea Book Bench by Florida artist Craig Gray, featuring a new book by local author John R. Barney, Looking for Princess Augusta: A Personal Journey, and recognition of a newly engraved historical marker honoring Princess Augusta’s connection to the city. Local trumpeter Barb Rollins will play “America” at the onset of the festivities.

The Augusta Woman’s Club invites women to join the easy-paced group walk with or without their dogs. Princess attire is encouraged for people and pets. Activities include wellness information booths, light refreshments, local pet and women’s wellness vendors, and a dog costume contest. The event will take place in tandem the Marina Holiday Market, offering additional opportunities to enjoy local vendors and community activities.
