My name is Galadra Plummer and I’m currently interning with the Greater Augusta Arts Council. My main project this summer has been to develop a community-building platform to connect art lovers with local artists, and I’ve been developing this through a program called Discord.
Discord is an app where you can join any server of your interest to meet new people, chat, call, and exchange ideas. In the Arts Council server, we currently have dedicated sections to share your portfolio, advertise any events you know or are a part of, ask or look for commissions, provide feedback to other artists, and network in a general laid-back chat to get to know others!
This is a FREE and PUBLIC channel. Though, Arts Council members get special roles!
In order to take part in this community, you need to first have a Discord account. It’s quick, easy, secure, and completely free! All you have to do is head over to discord.com and download the app on your device, or just open the website in your browser. Once you’ve made an account, follow this link to join the Arts Council server:

The benefits of being a part of this platform will be that you have an exclusive page to advertise your art portfolio, social media, events, and professional services (such as commissions, teaching classes, concerts, gallery exhibitions, and more!). Additionally, if you’re not an artist looking for creative help and don’t know who to ask, then this is the perfect place to put out a call for local artists! And again… it’s completely free! Whether you’re an artist or not, I would encourage you to join this resource to meet new people, self-advertise, learn about local events, and request and search for opportunities in the arts!
