Evy Danckers has always believed that everyone loves stories; it’s just about finding the right one for each reader. This philosophy has driven her to create captivating books that are both accessible and engaging, particularly for young adults. Her journey as an author is rooted in her deep love for books of all genres, sizes, and styles, as well as her keen observation of the reading challenges faced by young people. She noticed a significant gap in the book market for teens with different home languages, those with dyslexia, or those who believe they don’t enjoy reading. To fill this void, Evy makes it her mission to ensure her stories resonate with today’s youth and are accessible to all.
She has published 6 novels in Belgium & The Netherlands and has 2 more coming out in 2024. She hopes to publish her English debut in 2024 or as soon as she can find a literary agent. The US market is incredibly competitive, according to Danckers, but that hasn’t stopped her from writing.
Her works stand out due to their simple directness. They feature beautiful illustrations and straightforward language that is easy for young readers to comprehend. She writes in the present tense, making her stories feel immediate and dynamic, while also ensuring they remain concise and relatable to her audience.
Evy’s most recent works have gained widespread recognition, particularly her gaming trilogy, Glitch Game. The series offers an exhilarating blend of suspense, action, and depth, drawing readers into the lives of Nell and
Yukio, two young characters caught up in a virtual world more dangerous than anything they could have imagined. Glitch Game #1 introduces this nail-biting adventure, where readers follow Nell’s and Yukio’s harrowing journey through a game that is far from ordinary. Yukio describes it as “worse than my worst nightmares,” while Nell calls it “a rollercoaster with no end.”
With Glitch Game #1 selected for the 2024 Reading Jury in group 6, it’s clear that Evy’s work is making a significant impact on young readers. Her ability to blend real-world emotions with the high stakes of a virtual world is what makes this book, and the series, so compelling. Evy takes readers on an emotional and psychological journey, making the game itself a metaphor for the challenges of growing up, fitting in, and finding one’s place in the world.
In Glitch Game #2 (2024), the intensity only heightens. After surviving the first game, Nell wakes up in the hospital, only to discover that the danger is far from over. Contacted by the National Cybercrime Unit, Nell is pulled back into the world of the Glitch Game, but this time she’s motivated by revenge. What begins as a mission to save others soon turns into a new nightmare filled with ruthless opponents and brutal violence. Evy expertly balances the characters’ emotional journeys with edge-of-your-seat action, keeping her readers hooked from start to finish.
In her artistic journey, Evy has travelled across the world. Since January 2023, she has called Augusta, Georgia (USA) home, where she continues to develop her craft. Before relocating, she was a language teacher in Borgerhout, Belgium, and her love for language and storytelling is evident in every word she writes.
Her books don’t just tell stories—they build worlds. She even incorporates Nadsat, a language invented by Anthony Burgess for A Clockwork Orange, into her Glitch Game series, further enriching the universe she creates. This attention to detail and creativity makes her books stand out in the young adult literary space.
Evy’s guiding belief as an author is simple yet powerful: “With the right book, everyone is a reader.” This mantra reflects her inclusive approach to writing, where she strives to make her stories accessible to all, no matter their background or reading ability.
