Meet Hananiah Butler
We’re thrilled to introduce our first Featured Emerging Artist of the Year, Hananiah Butler, a senior in high school whose passion for art is matched only by his ambition. From a young age, Hananiah has been creating—painting, drawing, and exploring digital art—and he describes art as something that has always felt natural, a source of joy and freedom that continues to drive him today.
Balancing academics with his creative pursuits, Hananiah takes art classes, manages his study time carefully, and uses spare moments to sketch and develop ideas. This dedication has allowed him to refine his skills while preparing for an exciting future in the arts. Much of his inspiration comes from anime and manga, whose imaginative styles give him the freedom to design characters and worlds without being limited by realism. Recently, he’s been experimenting with more realistic pieces as well, expanding his portfolio in preparation for college and future opportunities.
Hananiah’s creative process is far from rigid. Before starting a piece, he often doodles loose, experimental ideas, embracing a chaotic and unstructured workflow that keeps the act of creating exciting. Learning new techniques, overcoming challenges, and discovering new ways to express his vision are all part of what makes art so meaningful to him.
Looking ahead, Hananiah sees art as more than a passion, it is his future career.
His goal is to share and sell his work around the world while leaving a lasting impression as an artist. Already, he has exciting projects on the horizon, including two downtown mural collaborations with his teachers and a mural at Lamar-Milledge Elementary School under his own business, HBarts. Beyond local projects, he dreams of traveling to Japan or Korea, exploring the origins of the styles that have influenced his work most profoundly.
Like many young artists, Hananiah has faced challenges along the way, particularly when it comes to selling and pricing his artwork. His first official experience at the Young Artist Market in 2025 helped him build confidence, and he continues to grow in this area with every new opportunity. Among his proudest moments is winning one of the top visual arts awards at his school which is a remarkable achievement, especially in his first year there.
Being recognized as an Emerging Young Artist is deeply meaningful to Hananiah. He sees it as an opportunity to grow his name and share his art with a wider audience. For him, creating art has not only provided happiness and freedom, but it has also given him a strong sense of purpose and a lens through which he sees beauty in everything. Outside of his work, Hananiah enjoys playing video games, watching anime, and reading—interests that continue to shape the unique style and direction of his art.
With talent, dedication, and a clear vision for the future, Hananiah Butler is an artist to watch. His creativity is only just beginning to leave its mark, and we can’t wait to see how his work continues to grow and inspire.
