Meet Raoul Pacheco
Ceramicist • Multidisciplinary Marvel • Mentor Extraordinaire

If you’ve ever wandered downtown Augusta and felt an inexplicable pull toward creativity in the air it might just be the magnetic field of Raoul Pacheco, because it’s always been there and its never ever left. He’s not only a dynamic artist and beloved professor, he’s kind of like an Augusta creative compass. (Seriously, if talent were a glaze, Raoul’s got that high-fire finish.)

Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, to a Father  from Ponce, Puerto Rico and a mother from Amsterdam, Netherlands, Raoul’s life  has always been rooted in cultural crossroads. He was raised between the cobblestone charm of European cities and the Southern spice of towns like Homestead, FL and Warner Robins, GA, Raoul’s early life reads like an artist’s mixtape: eclectic, bold, and always remixing cultures. He eventually turned the volume all the way up and earned his MFA in Ceramics from California College of the Arts a West Coast chapter that gave him international flair and coast-to-coast credibility.

But we’re lucky. Raoul came back.

Now residing in North Augusta, Raoul is the Associate Professor of Art and Design at Augusta University, where he inspires budding creatives in ceramics, sculpture, and figure modeling like a wizard with a wheel. From senior capstones to study abroad programs in the Netherlands and Belgium (yep, he’s taking ceramics global), he’s shaping more than clay, he’s shaping futures and in 2026, he’s taking it even further leading an upcoming study abroad trip to Japan.

When he’s not teaching, mentoring, or curating with flair, Raoul’s work can be found in galleries across the country and private collections around the world. Think: “If pots could talk, Raoul’s would give TED Talks.”  A friend to the downtown art community, Raoul isn’t just a participant, he’s a pillar. Whether it’s organizing exhibitions, showing up for fellow artists, or throwing down in a group show, he brings that unmistakable Raoul energy: grounded, expansive, and refreshingly real.

So this April, we celebrate the artistry and artistry-in-motion of Raoul Pacheco, a maker, a mentor, and a man who proves that art isn’t just something we hang on walls… it’s something we live, teach, and pass on. Let us raise our mugs (preferably handmade) to Raoul Pacheco, an artist whose work is as grounded as Georgia red clay and as boundless as his vision. We’re lucky to call him a colleague, a creative force, and a friend of Augusta.
