Meet the Awardees | 2025 Annual Awards

Each year, our Annual Awards serve as a moment to pause, reflect, and recognize the people who are shaping the creative landscape of our community. The 2025 recipients stand out not just for their remarkable accomplishments, but for the ways in which they inspire connection, spark dialogue, and elevate the arts in everyday life. Whether through mentorship, innovative practice, or tireless advocacy, these awardees exemplify what it means to lead with both vision and heart. We’re proud to celebrate their achievements and share their stories with you.

 

Lifetime Achievement Award: Dr. Christine Miller Betts
Dr. Christine Miller Betts is a trailblazing historian, educator, and founder of the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History, whose life’s work has preserved Augusta’s African American heritage. Her decades of advocacy have made the museum a vital center for cultural education and community celebration. Honoring truth, equity, and empowerment, Dr. Betts continues to inspire generations through her leadership, scholarship, and unwavering commitment to the arts.


President’s Award: Steven Kendrick
Steven Kendrick is a dynamic leader whose dedication to public service and the arts has helped shape Augusta’s cultural and civic growth. As Deputy Tax Commissioner and a passionate advocate for youth and community engagement, Kendrick consistently champions creative and inclusive initiatives. His vision and leadership exemplify the heart of public service, making him a deserving recipient of the President’s Award.


Visionary Leader Award: Barbara Feldman – Storyland Theatre
Barbara Feldman is the founder and creative force behind Storyland Theatre, where she has brought live theatre to thousands of children across the CSRA for over 30 years. Her passion for equity in arts education and her vibrant storytelling have inspired generations of young audiences. Barbara’s legacy is one of joy, imagination, and unwavering dedication to making theatre accessible to all.


Kath Girdler Englar Public Art Award: Przemyslaw Kordys (PK)
Przemyslaw Kordys, known as PK, is a visionary sculptor whose public art installations, like The Flame on the Riverwalk and an 8-foot heron at Phinizy Swamp, bring beauty and meaning to Augusta’s landscapes. As founder of Da Vinci Studio Design, he blends classical influences with modern design to create striking, community-centered works. PK’s art connects people to place, enriching Augusta’s cultural identity through accessible and engaging public sculpture.

 

Arts Nonprofit/Organization of the Year: Augusta Players – Roy Lewis
Roy Lewis, Artistic Director of the Augusta Junior Players, has spent over 30 years nurturing young talent through theater education in the CSRA. His transformative teaching style fosters personal growth, resilience, and empathy, with standout productions like Ruby: The Ruby Bridges Story leaving lasting impressions. A beloved leader across multiple local stages, Lewis continues to elevate Augusta’s youth arts scene through inclusive and inspiring storytelling.


History and Preservation Award: Corey Rogers
Corey Rogers, Executive Director of the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History, is a passionate historian dedicated to preserving Augusta’s African American legacy. His work on the “Golden Blocks” project and Golden Blocks Legendscomic book series has brought new life and awareness to a once-thriving Black business district. Through tours, lectures, and innovative outreach, Rogers ensures that Augusta’s Black history remains visible, honored, and accessible to future generations.

 

Arts Educator Award: A.B. Osborne – Augusta University
A.B. Osborne is the Director of Augusta University’s Animation Program, which he helped launch in 2019, bringing expertise in everything from medical animation to game development. A celebrated educator and recipient of the university’s 2024 Teaching Excellence Award, Osborne is known for blending technical mastery with creative innovation. His passion for digital arts continues to shape the next generation of animators and storytellers in Augusta and beyond.


Arts Media Award: Cliff Bennett – The Morning Mix
Cliff Bennett is the vibrant host of The Morning Mix and a longtime champion of the arts in the CSRA. With a background in theatre, radio, and broadcast journalism, he brings energy, heart, and visibility to local creatives through his work on air and on stage. Whether performing with his band or covering cultural events, Bennett is a constant, enthusiastic advocate for Augusta’s arts scene.


Arts Sponsor Award: Beachview Tents & Rentals – Jim Dalton
Beachview Tents & Rentals, led by General Manager Jim Dalton, is a vital supporter of Augusta’s creative community. Known for their top-tier event services, Beachview plays a key role in elevating local festivals—including Arts in the Heart of Augusta—with professional staging, tents, and design elements. Their steadfast sponsorship helps create unforgettable experiences that celebrate and sustain the arts.

 

Visual Artist Award: Tiphiknee De Herrera
Tiphiknee De Herrera is a contemporary artist known for bold, surreal works that explore transformation, identity, and the human psyche. Trained in classical illustration, her mediums range from oil painting to digital art, with standout pieces like Contemplation featured at the 2025 ArtFields Competition. Through exhibitions, workshops, and live demos, De Herrera continues to energize Augusta’s visual arts scene with her distinctive voice and emotive style.


Entertainment Award: Krys Bailey
Krys Bailey, Executive Director of Le Chat Noir, has been a driving force behind Augusta’s theater scene for over a decade. A co-founder of the improv troupe Schrodinger’s Cat and an accomplished voice actor and director, Bailey champions creative risk-taking and storytelling in all its forms. His passion for performance—shared with his family—has made Le Chat a dynamic hub for bold, local theater.


Photography/Digital Design Award: Mark Albertin
Photographer and filmmaker Mark Albertin uses visual storytelling to spotlight the cultural and ecological richness of the American South. His black-and-white analog photography, including the acclaimed Sacred Waters series, documents the beauty and vulnerability of natural landscapes like the Okefenokee Swamp. Through exhibitions, documentaries, and teaching, Albertin blends art with advocacy, preserving Southern heritage for future generations.

 

Literary Award: Lucinda J. Clark
Poet, publisher, and arts advocate Lucinda J. Clark has championed the literary arts for over 25 years through her Poetry Matters Project and P.R.A. Publishing. Her View from the Middle of the Road anthology series and ongoing support of poets of all ages have made her a cornerstone of Georgia’s poetry community. A frequent performer, judge, and award-winning producer, Clark’s impact stretches from the page to the stage and beyond.


Fashion/Fiber Award: Jordan Ariel Batin
Jordan Ariel Batin is the founder of My Best Friend’s Sewing Room, where she teaches sewing as both a practical skill and a creative outlet. Her studio in Martinez is a hub of inspiration for students of all ages, offering whimsical, skill-building classes and camps. With a focus on empowerment and community service, Batin stitches together creativity, confidence, and compassion—one project at a time.


Culinary Award: Chef Justin Alexander Hayes
Chef Justin Hayes is the culinary force behind Inicio, an immersive fine dining experience at Cork & Flame in Evans, Georgia. With global training and a passion for sustainable, seasonal cooking, Hayes creates elegant, multi-course meals that delight all the senses. His innovative approach to Progressive American cuisine has made Inicio a must-visit for food lovers and a showcase of his visionary talent.

 

Volunteer of the Year: Denise King
For over 18 years, Denise King has been the rock-steady, radiant force behind countless Greater Augusta Arts Council events. Rain or shine, festival or fundraiser, Denise brings dedication, warmth, and unstoppable energy. Her service goes beyond logistics—she uplifts everyone around her, embodying the true spirit of volunteerism.


Youth Emerging Artist Award: Maddie Cartwright
Maddie Cartwright is a talented young visual artist whose bold creativity and emotional depth already set her apart. Whether exploring new techniques or sharing her personal stories through art, she brings authenticity and heart to everything she creates. Maddie is a bright light in Augusta’s artistic future—and we’re thrilled to celebrate her rising star.
