Plein Air in the City Gallery | July 11 – Aug 29, 2024

On view July 11 – August 29, 2024 in the City Gallery is Plein Air, which is a group exhibition of local outdoor painter’s artworks. Plein air painting is a painting style that involves painting outdoors, in direct contact with nature and the elements. The term is French for “in the open air” and was popularized by 19th century French Impressionists. This style of painting is often associated with landscape painting, as it allows the artist to capture the impression of the natural surroundings, but can also feature figures and architecture.

The City Gallery, located in the ground level lobby of the Augusta Richmond County Municipal Building is managed by The Greater Augusta Arts Council  in partnership with the City of Augusta as a visual arts space. Gallery Director Heather Dunaway acts as curator, creating unique exhibitions of local artworks. The goal being to support local artists by showcasing their artworks in a high traffic location for locals, city officials, and visitors alike to better understand the vibrant arts we have in Augusta’s River Region.

Featured artists for this exhibition include Trina Smith, Jessica Graham, A.C. Daniel, Sindhu Pillai, June Klement, Alex Foltz (cover art), Frank Carstarphen, Michael Meissner, Cameron Young, and Ethan Moore.
