The City Arts Granting program was established by the City of Augusta in order to increase the cultural significance our city and region. $71,710 in city funds has been allocated to the Greater Augusta Arts Council to distribute to the nonprofit arts community via the City Arts Grant program.

By providing these funds, leaders of the City of Augusta act in the best interest of the community, recognizing the importance of the arts and the need to sustain and financially support a wide variety of artistic disciplines and expressions. Funding through Arts Granting enables arts organizations to:

  • Provide programming and educational opportunities throughout Augusta and Richmond County
  • To promote Metro Augusta as an arts destination
  • To build the capacity and stability of Augusta’s arts and cultural organizations
  • To enhance the economic development of the city through the arts
  • To share arts programs and activities with under-served audiences

There are two types of grants provided by the City Arts Grants program – Art Works and Art Challenge. Art Works grants are designed for an organization to receive general operating funds, while Art Challenge grants provide funding for new and existing special projects.

All City Arts Grants guidelines and application materials, including final report forms for returning grant recipients, can be found online by clicking this link. Application Deadline : August 2, 2018.

Grant applications are adjudicated in a public process that is free from conflicts of interests and assures fairness and professionalism. The review panel is made up of business leaders, city officials and community members who were tasked with rating organizations based on stringent guidelines regarding professionalism, proven fiscal responsibility, and strength of purpose. These ratings are used to determine the award amounts. The Board of Directors of the Greater Augusta Arts Council then votes to approve the recommendations from the review panel and the organizations are notified of their award. Awards are only given to arts-based nonprofit organizations located and programming in Richmond County.
