“Hydrangeas” Sculptures Welcome Visitors to Pendleton King Park

The Greater Augusta Arts Council is pleased to announce the installation of Hydrangeas, a series of three public sculptures now greeting visitors at the entrance of Pendleton King Park. Created by local artists Wesley L Stewart and Colleen Beyer-Stewart of September Art Studios, the works are steel sculptures, hand painted to resemble blooming hydrangeas found throughout Pendleton King Park’s gardens.

The sculptures serve as a colorful and welcoming feature, reflecting the park’s lush landscape and long-standing relationship with flowering gardens and native plant life. Commissioned by the Greater Augusta Arts Council, funded through a generous grant from the Georgia Rehabilitation Institute, and completed in partnership with the Pendleton King Park Foundation & Board, the project arrives at a meaningful time for the park.

Following a massive clean-up effort after Hurricane Helene, Hydrangeas marks the first new public art installation since the park’s reopening and represents the beginning of what is hoped to become a future sculpture trail. The installation celebrates renewal, resilience, and growth while contributing to Augusta’s expanding public art landscape.

You can find Hydrangeas at Pendleton King Park’s entrance, located at 1600 Troupe Street Augusta, GA 30904. Park hours are 7-days a week with Summer Hours 8 a.m. –  dusk and Winter Hours 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
