Creative Conversations – How to be a Festival Artist | Jan 18, 2024

Creative Conversations is a series of intimate discussions in the Arts Council Conference room on the second floor of the Sacred Heart Cultural Center on the third Thursday of each month. Artists and arts professionals get the chance to network and talk about hot topics that all creatives should have knowledge in. This is a great space to get your answers and learn all about what it takes to be a successful artist.
This conversation focuses on applying for arts festivals as a fine arts and crafts vendor.
It features two Arts in the Hearts of Augusta Festival vendors: local artists Kendra Runnels and Bradley Tubbs.
About the Artists
Bradley Tubbs:
I began working with glass in 1999. I started doing markets, craft and art shows in 2004. I have traveled as far south as Florida, north to New Jersey, and west to Kansas. I try to do one big show a month and Soda City Market in Columbia in between. Through a lot of trial and error, I feel I now have a relatively decent system down for applying to and participating in these types of events, though I’m still learning. I mainly make glass marbles, sculptures, and some jewelry now.
Kendra Runnels:
My interest in art began as a child and was cultivated during my time at the Savannah College of Art and Design from 2001-2004. But it wasn’t until I served as a missionary in 2009–2010 that I realized my full desire and calling to paint. After returning home in July of 2010, I became a full-time artist. I love speaking to people through my artwork and bringing hope, joy and beauty to peoples’ homes and lives.

I create mixed media pieces of artwork depicting dreamlike, nostalgic and natural scenes using a combination of collage, pattern, texture and layers of acrylic paint. My subjects vary a great deal from people walking in the rain, streets, location scenes to animals and nature. I love creating beautiful works of art that will keep you looking closer for the story in each piece.
These conversations are FREE for Arts Council Members or $10 for not-yet members.
