Good News for Arts Funding!
House increases proposed funding for arts in FY19 Budget
Via Americansforthearts.org – “Under the leadership of Chairman Ken Calvert (R-CA) and Ranking Member Betty McCollum (D-MN), both the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) are proposed at $155 million for FY 2019 in the U.S. House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee bill that was released [May 14].
This proposed $2 million increase matches the unified ask that Americans for the Arts and more than 85 national arts and arts education organizations made at Arts Advocacy Day in March!”

May 31 – Vital Connections
The artists participating in this year’s “Business of Being an Artist” class will present their group exhibition, “Vital Connections,” Thursday, May 31 6-8pm at the Ann and Ellis Johnson Gallery at the Jessye Norman School of the Arts.
The series, presented annually by the Greater Augusta Arts Council and the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, forms a cohort of artists that learn the necessary skills to present a professional art exhibit and further their artistic careers.
This year’s student group includes: Laura Bowers, Donald Carter, Ollie Carswell, Nancy Clements, Stephanie Gerace, Holly Curtis, Rhian Swain, and Pam Thompson

June 7 – Fusion
A reception for “Fusion: A Celebration of Modalities” currently showing at the City Gallery at the Municipal Building will be held Thursday, June 7 11:30-1pm. The show features work by regional artists and highlights several unique ways of creating art.
Featured Artists include: Colleen Beyer, Ginny Bojanowski, Dawn Cardona, Marian Owens, Bonita Martin, Rabia Rana, and Ryan Rood.

The Morris Museum of Art will be hosting Monica Campana, executive director of Atlanta’s “Living Walls” program, as part of their Art Now Contemporary Art Lecture Series on Thursday, May 24. Learn about this revolutionary public art program in our region!
